Shop Local, Shop Stettler: Supporting Our Community & Canadian Businesses

In these challenging economic times, supporting local businesses has never been more important. Every dollar spent in our community strengthens Stettler, supports Alberta businesses, and helps sustain Canadian industries. Shopping local isn’t just about convenience—it’s about investing in our neighbors, fostering local jobs, and preserving the unique businesses that make Stettler a great place to live.

Across Canada, a renewed sense of patriotism is emerging as people actively seek out Canadian-made products. This movement is about more than just national pride—it’s about ensuring our economy thrives and that Canadian businesses can continue to grow and innovate.

Why Shop Local?

  • Strengthen Our Community: Local businesses contribute to our town’s character and economy.
  • Support Alberta Businesses: Keep money circulating within our province to sustain jobs and industries.
  • Boost Canadian Industries: Purchasing Canadian-made products ensures our manufacturing sector stays strong.
  • Higher Quality, Ethical Sourcing: Canadian regulations ensure quality control, fair wages, and ethical labor practices.

How to Identify Canadian-Made Products

Understanding product labels can help you make informed choices when shopping:

  • Product of Canada: This label means all or nearly all ingredients, processing, and labor are Canadian.
  • Made in Canada: The final transformation of the product occurred in Canada, and at least 51% of the production costs were incurred here. The label may also state whether components are imported or domestic.
  • Canadian: Used similarly to “Product of Canada,” meaning the majority of ingredients, processing, and labor are Canadian.

For non-food products, the Competition Bureau ensures that the “Product of Canada” label applies only if at least 98% of production costs were incurred in Canada.
