National Get to Know Your Customers Day

Get to Know Your Customers Day is observed annually on the third Thursday of each quarter (January, April, July, October). This is a day to reach out to your patrons and get to know them better.

 

Often we are busy in the hustle and bustle of business to take the time to really connect with our customers and that is why it is a good idea on these nationally recognized days to make it a priority and put that little extra effort in to get to know your customers.  Some simple ways include calling a customer by their name, or if you don’t know, taking the time to ask them.  Loyalty programs are great, one for example is a special offer or recognition for your customer's birthday, taking the time to not only find out when their birthday is but to also help them celebrate really makes them feel they are valued and appreciated.  This is where a CRM (Client Relationship Management) program can provide a data base to keep important information on hand and serve reminders. 

 

A few other ideas are:

Talk to Them – Sounds simple enough but really engaging with your customers presents the opportunity for meaningful conversations.  You may be surprised and inspired by what you learn from them!

 

Create a Customer Profile – This is where you may want to utilize some type of CRM system to store data. With your customer profile you can identify the needs of your customer but also include their things like their birthday or anniversary, where they live,  educational background, likes and dislikes and so forth.

 

Keep Track of Their Purchases - Knowing your customer's purchasing habits enables you to anticipate the future needs or wants of your customer.  An example of this is when restaurants know your favourite dish on the menu or a clothing retailer knows your style and shows you a new arrival perfectly suited to you.  This leaves the customer feeling like a VIP when that extra time was taken to get to know them on a more personal level. 

 

Conduct a Survey or Utilize Comment Cards – This gives your customer the chance to offer their feedback and shows that you are committed to making their experience at your business a good one. 

 

These are just a few ideas; you know your customers best so work with your staff and come up with creative ways to connect with your customers and build lasting relationships.  Plan ahead for upcoming Get to Know Your Customers Days – Thursday, April 15, July 15 and October 21, 2021.
